Shields Legal Group was established out of a desire to provide comprehensive, reliable, and local legal services to businesses, governments, and individuals throughout Nebraska. The founders are Nebraska natives with strong roots firmly planted in local communities. Our passion for serving our communities, coupled with our innate legal minds, has proven to be a recipe for success for years . Our attorneys have broad substantive and procedural experience, a finger on the pulse of local social and economic conditions, and a full understanding of the legal environment in which we serve, it is no wonder we are the trusted law firm of the Cornhusker State. In 2021, Shields and Associates, a successor to Shields, Flores, et al, P.C. was formed out of the desire to continue the provision of stellar legal services across the State of Nebraska.

Shields Legal Group is headed by distinguished attorneys, all of whom have significant experience in their respective fields. Many of the associates and staff administrators began their careers as law clerks with the firm, therefore maintaining the knowledge and expertise that Shields Legal Group offers.
Attorneys Wallace "Woody" Shields, Nancy Bratton Shields, Susan Greene, and Elissa Novak are all licensed attorneys who have practiced law in California for over 25 years. Most of Shields Legal Group’s associates and partners have degrees from prominent law schools or MBAs from prestigious universities.
Shields Legal Group brings a great deal of prestige to the family law arena. Elissa Novak was a named partner with the pre-eminent Beverly Hills family law firm of Lanza & Novak (now Lanza & Lockner) which capitalized on her business background with the University of California, and specialized in high-profile, high-net worth cases.
Shields Legal Group has represented the BNP of Beverly Hills in its divorce from the Los Angeles Lakers, earned a rave review from former Supreme Court Justice Kenneth M. Beimberg for their role with the, Richards-Reyes divorce case, and assists the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers with their annual Spelling Bee fundraiser.

One of the hallmarks of our law firm’s success is the continuous feedback we receive from satisfied clients. Keith Moore wanted to strike a fair deal for his settlement with a major insurance company and was referred to Tom Geller in the Shields Legal Group. Keith worked closely with Tom and the firm, who did the necessary investigation for Keith’s auto accident resulting from a motor vehicle collision. The insurer offered Keith a minimal amount and did not agree to pay for Keith’s pain and suffering, but Tom spoke with the insurance company, and they finally agreed to pay everything. When Keith received his signed check, he thanked Tom for doing great work. Tom saved Keith tremendous amounts of stress trying to get the insurance company to settle as it should. Cathy Carter and her family were referred to the Shields Legal Group by a large religious organization for help after losing everything in a massive fire in Jefferson County, Colorado. To add insult to injury, she and her family were not insured. Many folks said she could never recover adequately from such a terrible loss. But Cathy did recover physically, emotionally, and economically. Her faults included some leaders in the religious organization, including the church’s CEO, the head of the facilities and engineering departments, the administrator of the church security and building management, the insurance agent, and the insurance company. None of the unnamed folks took the requisite steps to prevent Cathy’s tragedy. The insurance company did not properly inspect the building despite Cathy’s warnings of a growing problem of mold and mildew. The group permitted the company to store combustible materials in the facility. The group told the employees to leave without checking on them during the fire. The group did not have adequate fire alarms. Finally, because Cathy was of limited means, the group did not allow her to participate in their food program . A series of five attorneys made the problem worse when they decided to sue the wrong corporation for over $5 million. The Shields Legal Group found a qualified attorney, filed a class action suit against all of the guilty, and settled for more than $45 million for each of the more than 200 claimants. Hence, the Shields Legal Group gave Cathy and her family a much better life. The Shields Legal Group also gave the repeatedly and unjustly sued attorney a chance to wipe the slate clean and continue to practice law without the baggage created by foolish and selfish actions. Community Engagement and Service
Shields Legal Group is proud to engage in community outreach and pro bono work to support various social causes. We advocate for the rights of the individual and have supported programs aimed at improving our community every year since 2009. We donate and conduct food drives regularly for the Manos de Cristo Foundation, and have been delivering turkeys for Thanksgiving for almost a decade. Additionally, we volunteer with the United Blood Services and have participated in The Stand Down Project An annual event to provide service and support to our United States Veterans. We have been involved with the Vinca Institute and the Arizona Foundation for Women since 2011, both wonderful organizations that empower women in business.
